Dr. Johnson was most recently President of The Ohio State University from 2020 to 2023. Prior to that, she was Chancellor of the State University of New York from 2017 to 2020 and Chief Executive Officer of Cube Hydro Partners, LLC, a clean energy company that was a joint venture between Enduring Hydro, a company Dr. Johnson founded, and I Squared Capital, a private equity firm.
Dr. Johnson previously served as Under Secretary of Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Johns Hopkins University, Dean of Engineering at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
In 2015, Dr. Johnson was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors. In 2008, she was awarded the John Fritz Medal, widely considered the highest award given in the engineering profession, and in 2025 received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the United States' highest honor for technological achievement.
Dr. Johnson has served as a Director of Cisco Systems, Inc. since 2012, Director of DuPont de Nemours, Inc. since 2022, and Trustee of the Society for Science since 2024. She previously served as a Director of the AES Corporation until 2019 and Co-Chair of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE) with the Department of Commerce until 2025.
Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. She was previously on the Minerals Technologies Inc. Board from 2000 to 2009 and rejoined in 2024.
